Quest Software July 21 launched an open beta program for its tool for Oracle developers who use Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2010.
At the VSLive conference in February, Quest and Microsoft announced plans to integrate a Database Schema Provider for Oracle databases into VSTS 2010.
Quest opened the beta for this technology on July 21, enabling developers to test the new Quest tool in conjunction with Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2010 Beta 1. The Quest beta is available for download at www.TeamFuze.net. Quest and Microsoft are encouraging Oracle developers to join both the Quest beta and the Microsoft VSTS 2010 beta programs.
Of the Quest tool, Jim Sather, partner product unit manager at Microsoft, said: “Since first announcing this project with Quest in February, the response from the Oracle community has been very positive. We’re excited to now offer the community a chance to experiment with the Database Schema Provider beta and discover the value this tool will bring to Visual Studio Team System 2010.”
Oracle announced its own ALM (application lifecycle management) tool, Oracle TPC (Oracle Team Productivity Center), on July 1.
On July 22, Oracle announced the release of the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11gR1. This release is a free plug-in to the core Eclipse platform.
Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11gR1 introduces new features for the Spring Framework, support for JAX-WS (Java API for XML Web Services), Oracle Database development, and new enhancements for Oracle WebLogic Server deployment and management. The tool set is built for the latest Eclipse release, Eclipse 3.5, also known as the Galileo release. Oracle is among the first enterprise vendors to release a commercial Eclipse product supporting Eclipse 3.5. However, the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11gR1 also supports Eclipse 3.4.
