Former Oracle Corp. president and chief operating officer Ray Lane has joined the board of directors at MetaMatrix Inc., a 6-year-old metadata integration software maker, in New York.
Lane left the Redwood Shores, Calif., database giant in June 2000, following a power shuffle with CEO Larry Ellison. After Oracle, he joined venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where he now serves as general partner. KPCB is an investor in MetaMatrix.
MetaMatrix, a privately held company, markets namesake software that acts as a virtual database, reading and writing data to and from disparate data sources. MetaMatrix features XML modeling, data integration technology and a Simple Object Access Protocol interface to MetaMatrix Server that makes integrated information available as Web services.
The company counts among its customers Merrill Lynch, Infinity Pharmaceuticals Inc., and government agencies in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
