Customers of Sun Microsystems Inc.s storage hardware now have three new Fibre Channel switching options.
The new switches, all with 2G-bps throughput, are Brocade Communications Systems Inc.s 8-port SilkWorm 3200, 16-port SilkWorm 3800, and 128-port SilkWorm 12000, officials said.
They work with Suns own midrange hardware—the StorEdge 3900, 6900, T3, and A5200—and with Hitachi Ltd.s high-end arrays, which Sun resells as the StorEdge 9970 and 9980.
The switches, from San Jose, Calif.-based Brocade, are upgrades to Suns product line, officials said. Sun, of Palo Alto, Calif., began offering 2G-bps switches initially from QLogic Corp., of Aliso Viejo, Calif., last fall.
Pricing for the switches was not available. No other changes are planned for the switch lineup, officials said.
