WebGain and Flashline.com have integrated two of their products: Application Composer and Component Manager Enterprise Edition.
WebGains Application Composer provides underlying connectivity for a variety of Java 2 Enterprise Edition components, such as Enterprise JavaBeans and Java Servlet Pages. The components are frequently built with WebGains integrated Java development tool, WebGain Studio, formerly Symantecs VisualCafe.
Flashlines Component Manager Enterprise Edition creates a component repository. The Web-based repository can supply components to distributed applications and measure the reuse of a given component.
By placing existing Java components in the repository, a company can leverage its investment in them by making them available for assembly into other Java applications through Application Composer, said Ted Farrell, chief technology officer of WebGain. The Flashline product allows “software component management, tracking and reporting,” which can tell IT management how frequently and where a component is being reused, he said.
The repository helps streamline component use by making it easier to find, select and assemble a piece of Java code that is needed in a new application, Farrell said.
The combination of the two products encourages reuse of Java application modules and generates “a robust environment for quickly and easily creating e-business applications,” said Charles Stack, CEO of Flashline.
