Cognos Inc. will announce Monday the availability of a new integration platform designed to extend its business intelligence applications into other applications as Web services.

Known as Cognos Web Services, the platform builds connections between Cognos BI apps and other applications, such as CRM, ERP, supply chain management and collaboration, using SOAP (simple object access protocol) and XML.

The Web services support is designed to make it easier to add reporting capabilities to other applications and make it easier for developers to customize such capabilities to customers unique requirements, Cognos officials said. Cognos Web Services will also enable Cognos BI apps to be integrated into portal applications as it can conform to an existing user interface, company officials said.

Cognos Web Services is available now for both Unix and Windows environments.
