Documentum Inc. and SAP AG are rolling out tools that enable organizations to manage data and access to it.
Documentum is extending its enterprise content management software with new capabilities for managing final-form content and enabling collaboration in the release this week of the Documentum 5 suite.
The final-form content management technology in the upgrade includes support for output and reports management, records management, and production-level imaging and scanning. Earlier versions already supported document, Web content and digital asset management, said company officials, in Pleasanton, Calif.
Version 5 has support for integrated collaboration with the addition of Collaboration Edition, a set of three modules that repackage existing Documentum technology.
Other new features include improved usability and de- ployment, including a unified framework for all Web-based user interfaces to keep a consistent, point-and-click interface across all applications.
John Koerwer said the new object layer in Documentum 5 should speed application development. “Its really the best of both worlds,” said Koerwer, manager of design automation at BOC Gases Inc., in Murray Hill, N.J. “Well be able to use our own interface and map the workflow to our business processes without having to write new code. The applications are built at the object layer, not at the API layer, so its much more reusable.”
Separately, SAP, of Walldorf, Germany, late last month introduced its Employee Productivity Suite. EPS, as it is known, is an integrated set of self-service management and productivity tools designed to increase employee access to information and business processes, officials said.
EPS provides a platform that enables employees to capture and share knowledge and draws on a number of existing MySAP modules, including MySAP Human Resources.
