Business process modeling software developer IDS Scheer Inc announced today new software to help small and mid-size businesses model their business processes.

Aris SmartPath—a stripped-down version of IDS Aris enterprise software—enables SMBs to optimize their SAP AG and Microsoft Corp enterprise resource planning software by taking a process-oriented approach to implementation.

Aimed at companies with $250 million or less in annual sales, SmartPath actually provides three components—software, services and content—and integrates the functionality IDS, of Berwyn, Pa., gained with its acquisition of Plaut North America.

The core of the SmartPath software is built on industry-specific process models that are designed to simplify the implementation of ERP software by providing a software-independent architecture.

Like SAP, of Waldorf, Germany, IDS is well known for its enterprise-class software. Both companies have made efforts to reach the SMB market. At the same time, SAP has had a longstanding relationship with IDS, incorporating the latter companys Aris process modeling software into its enterprise-class ERP offerings.

Separately, Intalio Inc. on Wednesday announced the latest iteration of its BPMS (business process management system) software.

Intalio/n3 2.5s enhancements include a WYSIWYG page editor that lets users define page layouts and build forms without doing any coding. It also offers drag-and-drop manipulation of Intalios library of components—data tables, buttons, forms and navigational elements—to compose user interfaces.

Intalio/n3 2.5 integrates with both Systinet Corp.s Web services platform and Corticon Technology Inc.s business-rules engine.

Intalio, of San Mateo, Calif., also has a relationship with IDS Scheer; the latter companys Aris 6.0 process modeling environment is built into Intalios software to provide executable process models.
