Big data analytics and marketing applications maker Teradata and Hadoop provider MapR Technologies have deepened their business relationship.

The two California companies announced Nov. 19 an expanded partnership that integrates their technologies, aligns their product roadmaps, and will result in a unified set of products and services.

San Diego-based Teradata is optimizing integration of the MapR Distribution within its own Unified Data Architecture, which provides customers with more data analytics options when combining Teradata’s data warehousing package with Hadoop, discovery platforms and NoSQL options.

The agreement also provides for Teradata to resell MapR’s software, professional services and customer support. As such, Teradata will serve as a single point of contact for customers that use both Teradata and MapR solutions.

Orchestration capabilities such as Teradata QueryGrid and Teradata Loom will be directly integrated with MapR software. QueryGrid is the seamless data fabric that optimizes processing across Teradata databases, Hadoop distributions, Teradata’s Aster Discovery Platform and NoSQL databases.

“Customers who have invested in both MapR and Teradata solutions have requested integration, so now is the right time to expand our partnership,” Teradata Labs President Scott Gnau said.

MapR puts its own intuitive user interface on Hadoop and brings dependability, ease of use and NoSQL database applications in one distribution. The new deal combines Teradata’s QueryGrid, Teradata Loom and Teradata Consulting Services with the MapR Distribution including Hadoop.

Teradata Consulting Services provides Hadoop architecture, data cleansing, data transformation and data science skills that are in high demand for big data projects.

In other MapR news, the San Jose, Calif.-based company announced Nov. 20 that NTT Comware is using the MapR Distribution including Hadoop to power its new SmartCloud service. SmartCloud was launched earlier this month for customers in Japan, providing Hadoop-as-a-service to use its big data processing infrastructure running in the cloud.

MapR is used by more than 500 customers across financial services, government, health care, manufacturing, media, retail and telecommunications as well as by leading Global 2000 and Web 2.0 companies. Teradata ranks among industry leaders sales of big data analytic solutions, integrated marketing applications and services.
