In the slowing economy, a lot of businesses are getting back to basics and focusing on what they do best.

E-services consulting company Groundswell Inc. hopes to help such companies along that path by offering new services that make enterprise applications more relevant. According to officials at the Pleasanton, Calif., company, the way to do that is through enterprise information portals.

Groundswell is shifting its consulting efforts to address that opportunity. The company, which has about 100 consultants, is offering enterprise portal strategy, design, implementation and integration services based on a variety of enterprise portal software from PeopleSoft Inc. and others.

The services, intended to help clients improve existing portals or increase the return on investment of e-business initiatives, take a people-centric, rather than a process-centric, approach to implementation, Co-President Dean Alms said.

Through the companys proprietary knowledge, collaboration, analytics and transaction methodology, Groundswell can help determine the 10 percent to 20 percent of relevant information that should be delivered to employees depending on their role within the organization.
