Extensis Portfolio 7 is a good solution for these organizations and for graphics-oriented companies that cant afford a high-end digital asset management product. Released last month, Portfolio 7 provides a capable application for managing, tracking and sharing digital images. And when combined with Portfolio NetPublish Server 7, the system makes it simple to show and share image collections through informative Web sites.
The main interface for Portfolio is the Portfolio client application, which runs on Windows and Mac OS systems. Using this client, I was able to assemble and share diverse image collections and track a wealth of information on each image.
Portfolio 7 let me view all the image metadata that is automatically generated by digital cameras, and I could add custom data to the image files. I could also view low-resolution previews of images, even if I didnt have access to the original files at that time. In addition, Portfolio 7 provides some basic security capabilities to make sure only authorized personnel have access to the images.
The product provides several deployment options, including to CD or DVD. The deploy-to-Web-page features were also very good, letting me quickly create professional gallery pages with all the information I required.
