A little Austin, Texas-based company, Gravitant, recently featured here in eWEEK Innovation, has landed a big-fish customer: General Dynamics Information Technology.
GDIT is a key provider of IT services to government customers. It will use Gravitant’s cloudMatrix service brokerage platform in a series of new offerings that will allow governmental entities to acquire and employ hybrid cloud computing to improve control, increase security and lower costs.
General Dynamics Information Technology, which employs about 21,000 people worldwide, provides IT, systems engineering, professional services and simulation and training to customers in the defense, federal civilian government, health, homeland security, intelligence, state and local government and commercial sectors.
A major barrier to public cloud adoption is the complexity of managing the sourcing and usage of multiple public cloud service providers as well as the lack of standardized tools to holistically manage an IT supply chain that is comprised of both private and public clouds.
To address these issues, General Dynamics IT is introducing cloud services brokerage offerings optimized for state and local governments and U.S. federal agencies that offer affordable and manageable hybrid cloud computing solutions. These brokerages will allow various government bodies to leverage public cloud services from a variety of providers as well as their own private clouds, all under a common management and process framework.
The benefits will be lower ongoing IT costs, centralized procurement and management and the flexibility to easily expand or modify infrastructure to meet changing demands over time.
General Dynamics Information Technology’s new offerings based on Gravitant’s cloudMatrix will streamline the assessment, design, procurement, provisioning and real-time governance of solutions across hybrid cloud environments.
CloudMatrix serves as both a business and IT management hub for what Gravitant calls its Just-in-Time IT.
