Oracle Corp.s former waylaid Chief Financial Officer Greg Maffei has resurfaced at cable giant Liberty Media International Inc. as the companys new CEO and president.

Maffei abruptly resigned from Oracle earlier this month, after four months on the job. He had served as the companys CFO and co-president, along with two other executives.

When he left his position at Oracle, amidst much speculation about infighting with his co-presidents Safra Catz and Charles Phillips, Maffei said he was leaving for a “terrific professional opportunity,.” He declined, however, to say where he was heading.

Liberty, which owns cable networks including Starz Entertainment Group and QVC and holds a large stake in Rupert Murdochs News Corp., announced earlier this week it had hired Maffei to replace Robert Bennet, who had previously announced his retirement.

Maffei will take the reigns at Liberty during the second quarter of 2006.
