Today’s topics include T-Mobile and Sprint merging to create the second largest U.S. carrier, and Microsoft releasing the Windows 10 Spring 2018 Creators Update.

Mobile carriers T-Mobile and Sprint announced on April 29 their plans to merge in a $26 billion all-stock deal that would create the second largest U.S. wireless carrier.

The combined company would be called T-Mobile, John Legere would remain as its CEO, and T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom and Sprint parent company SoftBank would own about 40 percent and 30 percent of the combined company, respectively.

Legere said the primary reason for the new merger is to combine resources to build out a nationwide 5G network.

T-Mobile will continue to be carried on Deutsche Telekom’s books, and the main headquarters will be at T-Mobile’s headquarters in Bellevue, Wash., with a second headquarters at Sprint’s current headquarters in Overland Park, Kan.

Microsoft released its Windows 10 2018 Spring Creators Update on April 30. The release had been delayed due to a “blocking bug” issue.

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of the Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft, said, “With our latest major release … we want to give you back some of your greatest currency, your time.”

The update includes a new Timeline view to reach back in time to find content or resume work initiated in the past 30 days. Timeline also works with the Microsoft Edge and Office 365 mobile apps for iOS or Android, allowing on-the-go users to seamlessly continue work on their PCs.

Another feature, Focus Assist, formerly Quiet Hours, automatically mutes social media notifications and other distractions during hours needed to focus on a project or meet deadlines.
