The HTC Touch Pro2 smartphone, which runs Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, is landing on the Verizon Wireless network on Sept. 11 for a starting price of about $200.

On Sept. 10, Verizon announced that it would become the latest U.S. carrier to offer the HTC Touch Pro2 phone. Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile already offer their smartphone on their networks.

Verizon plans to sell the HTC smartphone for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract that includes a voice plan and an e-mail plan. Customers can order the phone through either Verizon’s Website or its retail stores.

The HTC Touch Pro2 is notable for its comparisons to the Apple iPhone. While the smartphone does have many consumer features, such as a linked contact view and support for Facebook’s mobile application, the fact that it uses the Windows Mobile operating system shows it’s geared toward business users in the enterprise. The Windows software allows the HTC Touch Pro2 to connect to Exchange, Outlook and a number of Office applications.

Other features of the HTC Touch Pro2 include a 3.6-inch “intuitive” touch display with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. In addition, the phone includes slide-out qwerty keyboard that is optimized for larger, adult fingers. The HTC phone also includes connectivity that is available over Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g networks, as well as Bluetooth and GPS support.

The 6.3 ounce HTC Touch Pro2 also supports a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor and has 512MB of ROM and 288MB of RAM on board.
