Intel, Wayport, and McDonalds formally launched their wireless venture on the West Coast on Tuesday, adding WiFi access to the fast food chains menu of burgers and fries.

Although Intel and McDonalds launched the service on a trial basis in New York City in March, the West Coast will receive the first WiFi-enabled McDonalds restaurants. Users will pay $4.95 for a two-hour period, although the fast food chain will also offer discounted service through promotions.

Wayport will provide the West Coasts hotspots, while Cometa Networks was asked to supply the infrastructure for the New York City rollout. By years end, McDonalds hopes to equip “hundreds” of restaurants with the wireless technology, the companies said, including the Chicago area.
