Microsofts Windows Embedded group will hold a “virtual” launch event this week to unveil a significant update to Windows CE. The 45-minute online event, scheduled for Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. PST, will introduce the new features of “Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2,” the company says.

The Nov. 15 virtual event corresponds to the official launch of CE 6.0 R2 at the Embedded Technology 2007 conference in Yokohama, Japan. Microsoft has promised a “fun and information-filled Webcast” during which Windows Embedded General Manager Kevin Dallas will review all the new features in the new version of Windows CE 6.0.

“No need to fly all the way to Japan for your sushi—just sign up and attend the launch right from your PC,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. Participants will need to supply their own sushi, however.

According to Microsofts CE 6.0 R2 launch Web site, CE 6.0 R2 will provide a number of new “technologies that embedded developers can use to boost their creative capabilities and easily establish connections to Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and other devices.”
