The upcoming release of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 has something for everyone. Medium and large organizations will want to migrate to Exchange 2003 because of its easier administration (and hence lower TCO) compared with the aging Exchange 2000. Small businesses will find Exchange 2003 a robust, feature-rich e-mail and groupware solution with an affordable price. And end users will benefit from the improved (and included) Outlook 2003 client, which should be available in conjunction with the servers release.

Exchange 2003 should be packaged and ready to ship in August or September. Small companies will want to opt for the Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition ($699 list, plus the required client access licenses (CALs) available for $67 per user or device). The Standard Edition has all the features of the Enterprise Edition ($3,999) except support for clustering and multiple database stores.

Buyers should also be pleased with Microsofts more flexible licensing structure.
