Revenue in the worldwide wireless LAN market jumped to more than $1 billion in the third quarter, with the health care and education sectors driving the growth, according to market research firm Dell’Oro Group.

There also was growth in sales of 802.11n products, Dell’Oro Group said Dec. 14.

The third quarter saw the supply constraints from the previous quarter disappear and revenues grow to levels not seen since before the global recession, according to Dell’Oro analyst Loren Shalinsky.

“During the third quarter, the overall market was boosted by strong growth in the enterprise segment,” Shalinsky said in a statement.

Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard were notable beneficiaries of the business ramp. Cisco saw strong sales in North America, while HP saw good business for its integrated WLAN and wired access device in the hospitality sector, Dell’Oro said.

Overall, revenues for Cisco, HP and Enterasys grew more than 30 percent each in the third quarter.

HP saw its strongest ever WLAN product revenues, increasing more than 60 percent in the quarter, Dell’Oro said.
