Sensors In a drive to enhance speed and resolution, Hewlett-Packard Co. next month will begin selling three scanners that include two separate sensors to determine the degree of resolution needed.

ScanJets The scanners?the ScanJet 7400C, 7450C and 7490C?will have a 2,400-dot-per-inch staggered pixel sensor for high optical resolution and a 600-dpi linear pixel sensor for lower resolution.

Easier scans Officials with the Palo Alto, Calif., company said the products will make scanning easier because they automatically choose the appropriate sensor for a given job.

Prices All three scanners support Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, the Windows 2000 Professional and Millennium Editions, and Mac OS 8.5 and above. The 7400C is priced at $499, the 7450C is $699, and the 7490C costs $999.
