DLI 7200 Rugged PDA
On June 12, DLI introduced its 7200 Rugged PDA offering point-of-service applications for fixed station terminals. It can withstand 4-foot drops to concrete and holds an Ingress Protection (IP) 54 rating for exposure to dust and water.
DLI 9000 Rugged Mobile Tablet
Introduced May 21, the DLI 9000 Rugged Mobile Tablet features a five-in-one mobile point-of-service (POS) module that allows doctors to take payments from patients at their hospital bedside or in their homes during a house call. The unit comes with an Intel Atom Z670 processor, 2GB of 800MHz double data rate type 2 (DDR2) memory and a 64GB solid-state data storage drive.
Juniper Mesa Rugged Notepad
Juniper Systems’ Mesa Rugged Notepad is used by first responders, as well as construction and public utility field personnel, to collect data in extreme environments. On June 20, Juniper announced that it had upgraded the unit’s OS to Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 (formerly Windows Mobile 6.5).

The Juniper Mesa Rugged features rubberized edges to absorb bumps and can be fully immersed in water. In addition, the Mesa unit’s onscreen keyboard now has “finger-friendly” Mega Keys to allow for data entry in the field.
Samwell RuggedBook 750
At the 2012 Computex show from June 5 to 9 in Taipei, the Taiwan-based Samwell Group displayed its RuggedBook 750. The unit runs a dual-core Intel Cedar Trail CPU and features a 10.4-inch touch-screen LCD. It can survive temperatures of -4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Samwell rugged models are used in field service, health care, hospitality, logistics, transportation and utilities.
Panasonic ToughBook Enables EMS Reporting on SafetyPad
Here an emergency medical technician uses a Panasonic ToughBook to run Open’s SafetyPad software platform to enable data reporting on an electronic “run report” between an ambulance and a hospital. Encrypted communication protocols allow for the exchange of patient data between the SafetyPad platform and electronic health records in hospital emergency departments.
SafetyPad Aids EMTs With Patient Documentation
Open’s SafetyPad software runs on rugged devices to allow EMT workers to check a patient’s symptoms and vital signs, such as heart rate and oxygen levels. It integrates with a cloud-based electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) platform developed by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
