Since the years beginning, tech support jobs have seen the largest salary increase of any IT job, according to research from IT job site Dice.com. Average tech support salaries in the U.S. grew 7 percent, from $45,800 to $48,900, according to Dice Inc.s monthly Dice Report.
On the flip side of the salary equation are Web and graphic designers and developers. Salaries for this category are languishing, decreasing 8 percent–an average of $4,400–over the past 10 months.
Industries that saw tech-salary increases this year include defense, medical and pharmaceutical, government, entertainment and, surprisingly enough, computer software.
To match the still-wilting economy, Dices job postings have been dripping away over the summer and fall: There were 27,591 jobs posted as of Oct. 1; 28,530 as of Sept. 1; 30,368 as of Aug. 1; and 31,523 as of July 1.
The average tech salary posted as of Oct. 1 was $70,300. Contractors averaged $96,300, and permanent positions averaged $66,300. Women reported an average salary of $63,700, compared with mens average reported salary of $71,500: a gender gap worth $7,800.
