Novadigm Inc. recently sought to distance its business from a long-running patent infringement dispute with Marimba Inc. when it unveiled a new inventory management tool.

The Mahwah, N.J., company, which last month settled its patent dispute with Marimba, addressed customer requirements to provide a more complete inventory management capability in its software and content distribution product lineup.

Radia Inventory Manager can automatically discover information about an enterprises hardware and software assets, and it provides Web-based reporting on the consolidated results. It exploits Novadigms fractional differencing technology to collect only data that has changed on a managed device since the last data-collection task.

It comprises an agent running on the managed device, a manager that executes collection tasks and contains policies about inventory, and an integration server that provides Web-based inventory reports.

Radia Inventory Manager is based on the Distributed Management Task Forces Web-based Enterprise Management schema and implements the Windows Management Interface.

The product can report on servers, including those based on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Solaris, HP-UX or Linux. It can report on clients, including Windows 95, Windows 98, NT and Windows 2000. It is available now and pricing starts at $50 per user.
