Advanced Micro Devices released a pair of mobile Turion 64-bit processors on Monday, both of which will appear in boutique notebooks from VoodooPC.

The AMD MT-40 and MT-37 will form the new high end of the Turion “MT” family, the designation used for AMDs thin-and-light processors that use a 25-watt thermal design power envelope.

A second family, the “ML” family, was designed for faster notebooks that consume up to 35 watts of power.

Both chips will be used inside the VoodooPC “Featherweight” and “Middleweight” series of notebooks.

The Voodoo Featherweight series weighs about 5.4 pounds, lighter than other, older thin-and-light notebooks like the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T42, but heavier than Dells Inspiron 700m notebook.

AMD specifically designed the Turion to fit inside thin-and-light notebooks, a product segment it had previously been forced to yield to Intels Pentium M processor.
