Maybe Autodesk’s romance with the Mac is more than a one-night stand, after all.
Last year, when the company released a Mac OS X version of its flagship AutoCAD design software, I wasn’t sure if we were looking at a flash in the pan or not. But today’s announcement of AutoCAD 2012 for Mac, and and now, Mac versions of AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD WS, makes it look as if Autodesk’s commitment to Apple’s desktop software platform actually has some legs.

One thing I find interesting about the announcement is that Autodesk is only going to sell the Mac versions of AutoCAD LT 2012 and AutoCAD WS through the Mac App Store. I don’t really understand why the company – which operates its own online store – made that decision, but I’m sure the reasoning is sound.
The suggested retail prices for the Mac versions of AutoCAD 2012 and AutoCAD LT 2012 are $3,995 and $899.99, respectively; AutoCAD WS for Mac is free. AutoCAD LT for Mac is available today in the U.S. and Canada only; AutoCAD for Mac 2012 and AutoCAD WS will be available worldwide on Friday.
