Apple today released the 10.6.8 update to Mac OS X, which is recommended for the company’s Final Cut Pro X video editing software, and which may be the company’s final update to the Snow Leopard release train. It’s available through the Software Update feature of Mac OS X or as a download from Apple.

The 10.6.8 update includes enhancements to the Mac App Store designed to prepare systems for the upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, which is due later this summer. It also contains what the company calls improved support for IPv6 and improvements to VPN reliability. It corrects bugs in the Preview viewer that cause it to quit without warning, and other bugs in the use of NFS home directories with TextEdit and Xcode, in iCal’s timezone data for Portugal, and in the behavior of Final Cut Pro when importing certain media files. It also includes fixes that first appeared in the Mac OS X 10.6.7 Snow Leopard Font Update, and adds RAW image compatibility for new digital camera models and allows users to authenticate to a web proxy server using Kerberos.
