I’m on the Amtrak Acela heading from New York to Boston and while most of the passengers on the train are struggling to find an Internet connection, I don’t have that problem. A few months ago I got a review edge card from Sprint to try out. I’ll say right up front, this Sprint edge service is outstanding. Whether on the train, at the airport, at work or at home, I have never had a problem with a lost or slow connection. This is a big change from the services I’ve used in the past.

For the record, I’m using a Novatel Wireless Merlin S720 card to access the Sprint 3G CDMA EV-DO Rev A network. The system runs about as fast as a cable modem, sometimes a little less but certainly sufficiently fast for work. When I think of those poor iPhone users stuck on the slow AT&T net for a couple years, I cringe. If you are a road warrior always juggling networks and trying to find wireless hotspots and paying outrageous connection charges at your hotel, consider the sprint alternative.
