Google now lets anyone with a Google e-mail account sign up for its new Page Creator feature.

When last heard from, the self-publishing feature was the subject of a very brief test release Feb. 24.

Each page that’s created can be personalized with links and other material. Stored on Google’s servers, each page has a Web address that begins with a Google account name followed by “.googlepages.com.”

Google already offers a free, do-it-yourself Web publishing feature, Google Blogger, but it caters to those with more sophisticated Internet skills. Page Creator is for users whose Web knowledge is more rudimentary.

Page Creator competes with many other Web page hosting services, most notably Google rival Microsoft’s Live.com initiative and its growing base of at least 100,000 users.

Chris Sherman, executive editor of SearchEngineWatch, suggested that Google may be mimicking MySpace, the popular home page social network service owned by News Corp.
