HP Green Data Center Vision Offers Eco-Friendly Power, Cooling Technology

The summary screen shows a snapshot of recent activity while breaking down matched policies that provide at-a-glance status. The Health Monitor at the lower right refers to the CI-750 appliance that runs on what is basically a Dell server.

Notice (center) that the matched content is shown in the clear. It’s thus important that IT administrators be bound by strong policies, to control the use of sensitive information they will see. Code Green officials said some form of data masking is forthcoming.

Here, I told the CI-750 to render the matched content in HTML. Notice that I’ve highlighted in blue the first occurrence of a credit card number, but the CI-750 didn’t match it until lower on the screen, which it highlighted in yellow.

4

I registered a corpus of customer information to be protected. The CI-750 found the test data that I’d “hidden” in Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist.” Notice that the small chunk of protected data that I highlighted in dark blue wasn’t enough to trigger the CI-750. The device found the protected data and highlighted it in yellow one paragraph later. This yellow highlight in context is new in Version 5.

5

I was able to create reports in the CI-750, but not reports that run automatically on a schedule. This is just one of the missing features that puts the CI-750 in the affordable but not full-featured category of DLP products.

6

The CI-750 comes with about 20 default policies. I added a couple; the ones I tested with are checked (at left). It was very easy to create policies, so companies will not need to hire someone to do it.

eWEEK Labs Walk-through: Code Green CI-750 DLP – Create a User Group

7

There is not a whole lot of granularity with users and groups in Version 5 of the CI-750. Here, I could create a user group with or without administrative rights. I really wanted to create a user group that had read-only access or other restrictions. Not in this version of the product, although Code Green is making efforts to further integrate the product with Microsoft’s Active Directory.
