SAN FRANCISCO—Art Gilliland, Hewlett-Packard’s senior vice president and general manager for enterprise security, is very knowledgeable about the world of security but knows he’s not immune from being a target, too.
In an exclusive video interview with eWEEK at the RSA Conference here, Gilliland discussed HP’s security strategy and why there is no silver-bullet single-product approach that can work for IT security.
Gilliland also noted that technology alone isn’t the solution and admitted that he has been directly targeted in a phishing attack.
“I spoke at a conference and I got an email from the organizer, who is a woman I know,” Gilliland said.
The email asked Gilliland if he was interested in speaking at another conference and included a picture of him taken at a prior conference. It turns out that email was a phishing attempt, and the image included malware targeted directly at Gilliland.
“Most executives aren’t as completely paranoid as I am,” Gilliland said. “So you’re going to get into organizations, and that’s why we see the amount of breaches growing by 20 percent.”
