In its latest attempt to reinvent itself and refocus its business, Novell Inc. on Wednesday announced a new concentration on secure identity management solutions.
The new solution set is known collectively as Nsure and includes new strategic alliances with PricewaterhouseCoopers plc and Deloitte & Touche LLP.
In making the announcement, Novell officials acknowledged their past meanderings all over the networking and services map, but promised that this time would be different.
“Today that changes. Were announcing a very specific focus around secure identity management as a solution area,” said Chris Stone, vice chairman and member of the office of the CEO at Novell, based in Provo, Utah.
The first Nsure-branded solution to come out of the new initiative is Nsure Resources, a packaged solution meant to help companies expedite new employee access to necessary corporate applications. It essentially links all of the relevant applications together and enables the administrator to create one master account, which then spawns accounts on the other applications. Other Novell products that address some aspect of identity management—including iChain, SecureLogin and DirXML—now fall under the Nsure umbrella as well.
“Some would say that [single sign-on] is the Holy Grail. Maybe it is, but Novell has already built it,” Stone said.
Nsure Resources is due for release Nov. 1.
PwC plans to offer Nsure solutions as part of its Security Integration Services practice, while Deloitte & Touche has already announced a Novell-based identity management solution for SAP environments.
