The recording industry filed 80 more federal lawsuits around the country last week against computer users it said were illegally sharing music files across the Internet. Those 80 people were among 204 who had been threatened with lawsuits earlier this month by the Recording Industry Association of America. The RIAA said the remaining 124 people had approached music industry lawyers about settling the claims.

E-mail software maker Sendmail is partnering with software company Cloudmark to provide integrated anti-spam features for companies using Sendmail e-mail messaging products. Cloudmarks products use a Microsoft Outlook antispam plug-in called SpamNet to maintain a distributed, 700,000 person peer-to-peer anti-spam network. Sendmail, which is also available in an open-source version, is one of the mostly commonly used enterprise e-mail platforms.

Network Associates has completed a restatement of its earnings in the last five years. The new statements show that during the first two quarters of 2003, the company had a net income of $14.1 million. Previously, the company had reported a net loss of $3.7 million in the first quarter and a net income of $1.1 million in the second quarter. The new filings also show that during 1998, the company suffered a net loss of $319.1 million, rather than an originally reported net income of $32.4 million.
Virus
Panda Software last week updated its line of antivirus and security software, introducing new products for home, office, and corporate use. Titanium Antivirus 2004, Pandas SOHO product, watches for “malware” and it tracks Windows patch alerts. The program scans for viruses in inbound and outbound e-mail, and when users browse or download files. Panda also markets EnterpriSecure, an enterprise-level product.
