Newcomer Skyport Systems, which has developed new-gen security specifically for enterprise architecture, has landed a $30 million round of venture capital funding, enabling the company to expand sales and marketing and accelerate its research and development programs.

The funding was led by GV (formerly known as Google Ventures), with participation from Cisco Investments, Thomvest Ventures, Northgate Capital and InstantScale in addition to existing investors Index Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures and Intel Capital. The Series C round, announced March 16, brings total Skyport funding to $67 million, according to Crunchbase.

Skyport Systems’ hyper-secured infrastructure, called SkySecure, is designed to ensure the security of mission-critical IT and corporate assets by using tight integration and control of compute, security, virtualization and policy management.

SkySecure is a remotely managed platform that establishes a secure enclave for an enterprise’s most important business applications. Skyport Systems claims this is the first turnkey and security-embedded platform to re-architect compute, security and virtualization into a single technology stack, keeping data on-premises, and mission-critical IT and assets safe.

Due to increasing threats from cyber-criminal states and individuals, enterprises are investing more capital into securing their computing infrastructure. Nonetheless, a high percentage of infiltrators get into systems and create havoc by stealing or damaging personal and business data.

Skyport’s team, comprised of engineers from Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks and based in Mountain View, Calif., developed their own proprietary, next-generation security for infrastructure that actively and continually protects the business-critical systems it hosts, the company claims.

Installed as a completely integrated system, SkySecure is the first commercial hyper-secure infrastructure architected from scratch to provide continuous validation to assure system integrity and remote management to ensure auditability, the company said. It can be deployed in 30 minutes to protect an organization’s critical workloads.

Since its launch in May 2015, Skyport Systems’ SkySecure has been tested and deployed by government entities, institutions of higher education, and various enterprises.
