Today’s topics include news that Intel’s latest Xeon Phi chips will be inside supercomputers in 2016, how Google is ramping up voice search capabilities, Docker’s introduction of management services for Docker-enabled applications, and MetroPCS customers are getting unlimited music streaming.

Supercomputers built with the next generation of Intel’s many-core Xeon Phi processor will begin appearing in 2016. But some hardware makers currently are running pre-production versions of the chip in systems as they gear up for supercomputer deployments.

At the same time, Intel officials at the SC 15 supercomputer show in Austin, Texas, on Nov. 16 also announced that it will launch the company’s Omni-Path Architecture fabric technology designed for high-performance computing environments, bringing improved performance to the workloads running in clusters.

Users of Google app for Android and iOS devices can now ask more complex, natural language questions when using voice search.

The company says it has figured out a way to break down queries so that the Google app voice search tool can understand the semantics of each component to better comprehend the true intent behind a specific question.

Google app can now understand superlatives and ordered items in a query. A user could query Google app for the “tallest” player on a particular basketball team, the “largest” state in the United States or the largest cities in a specific state, and reliably get answers to those sorts of questions.

Docker is continuing its efforts to dig deeper into the enterprise with the announcement at DockerCon EU of a new management and deployment service called Docker Universal Control Plane.

Universal Control Plane integrates with existing enterprise control sets, including authentication and authorization technologies, such as Microsoft Active Directory and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) services. The service also provides access control services for the actual deployment cluster on which the Docker apps will run.

MetroPCS is joining its parent company T-Mobile in giving customers free unlimited music streaming and more high-speed data each month under their monthly calling plans.

The new Music Unlimited service will allow MetroPCS customers to stream an unlimited amount of music using their mobile devices without having to use up their monthly data allotments.

Customers on qualifying plans will be eligible to stream music from 33 music streaming services under the service, which will be expanded with more streaming venues in the future, according to MetroPCS officials.
