Secure application delivery specialist Array Networks Inc., announced the launch of the Array SPX800 Universal Access Controller (UAC), a remote access solution aimed at small to medium-size businesses (SMBs). Array said with the SPX800 appliance, SMBs and their employees, road warrior and office worker alike, can benefit from a range of SSL VPN and remote desktop access functionality without making sacrifices in time, effort, budget, or security.

The SPX800 appliance enables any user to securely connect to internal resources from remote locations, in a user-friendly appliance. For road warriors, the SPX 800 delivers SSL VPN access to the network and all applications from any PC from any location. For users that typically work in an office, the SPX800 provides remote access to the worker’s desktop with complete access to his applications. Array claims this enables SMBs to have a single solution for remote access and helps reduce the number of laptop computers businesses need to purchase.

Michael Zhao, president and CEO of Array Networks, said remote access for SMBs has been an afterthought for enterprise-class SSL VPN vendors. “Accordingly, SMBs have had to settle for limited functionality or poor quality of experience,” he said. “With the SPX800, SMBs now have a truly high-value, optimized remote access solution that serves all their needs in a single, affordable appliance.”

The SPX800 delivers the same capabilities as Array’s enterprise SSL VPN appliances to SMBs, and the company claims the appliance is the only hardware-accelerated entry-level SSL VPN appliance with auto power management. Typical setup time takes less than 30 minutes. The SPX800 also features Array Pilot, a streamlined administrative user interface with wizards and device configuration workflows that simplifies installation. The Array SPX800 UAC is available immediately with two options: 25 concurrent users and 50 concurrent users. It includes a full set of SSL VPN features as well as DesktopDirect.

In July, the company launched he APV900 Application Delivery Controller (ADC), aimed at midmarket companies. The ADC delivers Layer 2-7 server load balancing, high availability, caching, SSL acceleration, DDoS protection, Connection Multiplexing and compression, in a single appliance. The APV900 works by directing connections past inactive or overburdened servers, re-establishing connections as conditions permit and eliminating single point of failure with 1+1 redundant configuration. The appliance is currently available in three packages with specific focus: AppVelocity for application acceleration, AppVelocity-S for secure application delivery, and NetVelocity for WAN link load balancing.
