Asigra launched its Converged Data Protection Appliance family, developed to enable managed service providers (MSPs) and cloud service providers with cloud backup and disaster recovery (DR) services.
The appliance line is built for service delivery to provide end-to-end data protection for small and midsize business (SMB) and enterprise environments.
The multi-tenant agentless solution is available for Windows, Linux, Mac, Android and iOS environments and includes a cloud license server for the provisioning of licenses, billing module to support multiple currencies, LAN storage discovery tool and Web-based management console for single-pane-of-glass management.
“Ease of use is crucial for organizations with limited IT resources,” William Kulju, senior product marketing manager for Asigra, told eWEEK. “This is especially true for the data recovery phase of data protection as it allows users to quickly retrieve critical information without delay in support of business uptime.”
Converged Data Protection appliances are designed to be plug-and-play to enable faster service deployment and time to revenue for service providers. The product features full integration of Asigra Cloud Backup and automatic configuration.
Key features include support for all cloud deployment models, including public, hybrid and private National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 certified and AES 256 data encryption at rest and in flight.
Other features include protection of customer data to a single scalable repository—regardless of data source location—and the appliances are software- and hardware-platform-agnostic to avoid compatibility issues.
Finally, the appliances offer integrated virtual machine (VM) replication and mobile endpoint geo-location and remote-wipe capabilities.
“Future data protection solutions will need to be comprehensive enough to protect all possible data sources, including mobile, cloud, virtual machines, physical, and so on,” Kulju said. “Additionally, they must go beyond backup to provide converged capabilities that include backup, replication, mobile-device management and more. Additionally, solutions will need to permit administrators to adjust levels of protection on a data source to match business requirements. All of this must be done in an efficient, simple manner.”Three appliance models based on Supermicro servers running FreeBSD and ZFS will be available to MSPs worldwide. The available systems include the Model 1800 (1U), Model 3600 (2U) and Model 5400 (4U).
A solid data protection strategy requires careful due diligence up-front, prior to the deployment of a solution, Kulju said.
“IT administrators must understand what data sources there are to protect and ensure they have the right level of protection for each of them,” he said, adding that business requirements determine the level of protection needed.
