Axiom Fiber Networks, a telecommunications infrastructure services provider that operates in the greater New York City metropolitan region, announced the official launch of the company, which will be headed by Felipe Alvarez.

The company’s network is brand new and built to support solutions requiring high quality fiber connectivity in any type of density situation, from single pairs to massively dense fiber counts.

“What makes us competitive is a combination of factors starting with the overall value proposition –the quality of service, fiber quality, density of fiber deployed, delivery, our flexibility of network solutions and business terms,” Alvarez told eWEEK. “Axiom Fiber’s service solutions are focused on customer needs. Flexibility is paramount in service delivery and customer care.”

Using the latest generation fiber, the 20-mile, 864-strand core network deployment began in late 2014.

“Axiom Fiber’s high-fiber density network in Manhattan is within close striking distance of any location south of 59th Street. A significant component of this network will tie together major telecommunications traffic exchange centers where there is a high level of demand for dark fiber solutions,” he said. “In NYC we leverage rights-of-way made available to Axiom Fiber via its franchise agreement with The City of New York – building the network is simple in concept but very complex in execution and requiring an experienced team to design, implement and operate the network.”

Alvarez said it starts with a target route or location followed by a field survey to determine availability of a path in which to place the fiber.

“If available, then there is an intricately choreographed dance involving multiple entities ranging from several NYC agencies to construction companies to building owners, made more interesting by the realities of NYC traffic, weather, holidays and ongoing public and private improvement projects,” he explained.

The first stage, connecting multiple carrier hotels, is scheduled to be complete in the first quarter of 2015 with the remaining stages finalized in the second quarter.

“We believe that in addition to what makes our solutions competitive, Axiom Fiber offers a deep understanding of the complexities of deploying and operating a successful telecommunications network infrastructure,” Alvarez said. “Our passion is for customer success. Our customers come first.”

The company will offer dark fiber services and custom solutions to enterprise and carrier customers in the New York metropolitan area, initially providing high-count fiber routes between traffic interchanges in New York City.

“Our expansion plans will follow customer demand – we are not bound by geographical boundaries and can craft customer solutions that can span the Hudson River into New Jersey, or take it across the U.S. to Los Angeles, for example,” he said. “The benefits of a dark fiber solution are important to businesses no matter where they are located, but it is of greater importance to businesses that operate in NYC because of the high intensity of data traffic moving in and out of the area.”

Alvarez brings more than 25 years of telecommunications experience gained from companies such as Sidera Networks (formerly RCN Metro), Con Edison Communications, Hibernia Networks, and Verizon.
