Boston Scientific, Accenture Launch Data-Driven Health Platform

Medical tech solutions specialist Boston Scientific and professional services specialist Accenture announced the development of a cloud-based, data-driven digital health solution for hospitals.

The solution, known as Advantics Care Pathway Transformation, is designed to enable providers to make more proactive and informed decisions based on insights into the patient population, ultimately improving the care a patient experiences from hospital stay through post-discharge care and in-home support.

Advantics uses Accenture’s analytics insights platform, which provides actionable insights into care coordination and patient population health patterns.

“The growth of value-based care and integrated care models, and the emergence of digital health and analytics are becoming more important to understand as they represent opportunities to improve and personalize the delivery of healthcare to patients,” Jeff Elton, managing director for Accenture’s strategy and life sciences division, told eWEEK. “Accenture, a strong provider of health IT, has advanced analytics capabilities. Boston Scientific’s Care Pathway Transformation solution uses Accenture’s proprietary analytics platform. It has been tailored for insight into patients with heart failure.”

Elton explained the plan is to expand the solution to additional chronic cardiovascular disease states as the company gains additional experience in the marketplace.

He said the health care industry is currently experiencing a tsunami of change, with health care providers being incentivized to shorten patients’ length of stay, limit the scope of their treatment and avoid acute care facilities.

Elton noted providers are also being evaluated not only on their ability to offer individualized care that begins even before a patient enters a facility, but also on their ability to continue care at a patient’s home and workplace to ensure a positive outcome.

The solution can track how a patient moves through the hospital system, how long each step takes and whether a patient can be better served by a more efficient system.

In addition, care management capabilities track how patients are diagnosed, treated and monitored, by whom and how often, as well as their ongoing vital signs and risk analysis.

“Technology is another major catalyst for change in the industry,” he said. Thanks to big data clouds for storage, and advanced analytics, “healthcare players can come together to share, integrate, and analyze multiple forms of patient data to fully understand the patient journey,” he explained. “Armed with this understanding, they can collectively work to determine the steps to take and services to provide that will improve patient care and health outcomes in very cost-efficient, effective ways.”
