Centrify announced an identity management solution for Apache Hadoop-based big data infrastructures, Server Suite 2015, as well as partnerships with big data vendors Cloudera, Hortonworks and MapR Technologies.

Organization can use Server Suite 2015 with their existing Active Directory infrastructure to control access, manage privilege, address auditing requirements, and secure machine-to-machine communication with and across their Hadoop clusters, nodes and services.

Server Suite 2015 is currently available from Centrify and authorized partners worldwide, and is licensed on a per- server basis with pricing starting at $385 per server.

Server Suite automates Hadoop service account management and tracks user activity and associates it with an individual in Active Directory, as well as enforcing access controls and least-privilege security across Hadoop and reporting on who did what across Hadoop clusters, nodes and services.

To simplify and streamline Hadoop deployments, the company built in new features and compatibility enhancements in the areas of Kerberos network authentication, service account management, and Active Directory and Hadoop interoperability. By extending Active Directory’s Kerberos and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) capabilities to Hadoop clusters, Server Suite lets organizations leverage existing Active Directory-based authentication for Hadoop administrators and end users.

It is what customers want, Bill Mann, senior vice president of products and chief product officer at Centrify, told eWEEK.

“Over the last six months, 50 of our customers came to us to explain how they were using Centrify to secure their Big Data environments,” Mann said. “They recognized that authentication to Hadoop environments required the setup of a separate siloed identity infrastructure using Kerberos,” explained Mann.

“Instead, these customers wanted to leverage their existing Identity Management infrastructure – Active Directory by leveraging Centrify. This resulted in minimizing the cost of the parallel infrastructure, but more importantly it allowed them to reduce identity-related risks and address compliance and audit requirements.”

The global Hadoop market, powered by the rise in demand for big data analytics, is forecast to grow from $2 billion in 2013 to $50.2 billion by 2020, according to a recent report from Allied Market Research.
