Secure file sharing solutions specialist CertainSafe announced a number of productivity and security enhancements to its file sharing, storage and messaging service, including the ability to share multiple folders simultaneously with multiple individuals.

The technology features the company’s proprietary MicroEncryption technology that uses MicroTokenization to encrypt each file individually down to the byte level.

Stored MicroEncrypted data is fully redundant in geographically dispersed locations, storing each piece of data in essence four times.

Even if a hacker successfully broke the encryption of one piece, they’d be stuck with a fragment of information not tied to any other piece of information.

If several pieces were able to be assembled, there is no correlation between the chunks, again rendering them useless.

“Business of any size, from a two-person operation up to an enterprise, have sensitive data to protect,” Steven Russo, executive vice president of Secure Cloud Systems, CertainSafe’s parent company, told eWEEK. “Both public and private companies are tasked with keeping vast amounts of information confidential. From employee information, trade secrets, sensitive communication, customer records, contracts and more CertainSafe is a perfect fit.”

The file sharing service also offer PCI Level 1 DSS Certified data storage, meaning CertainSafe users, including health care IT specialists can store HIPAA, PCI, PFI, PHI, PII as well as other types of sensitive data that require compliance.

Russo explained PCI Level 1 DSS Certification represents the Payment Card Industry’s Proprietary Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) designed for organizations that handle cardholder information for the major debit, credit, prepaid, e-purse, ATM, and point of sale (POS) cards.

The standard was created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce credit card fraud due to its exposure.

Validation of compliance—certification–is performed typically by an external qualified security assessor (QSA) that creates a report on compliance (ROC) for organizations handling large volumes of transactions.

In addition, CertainSafe’s technology and servers are maintained in-house and not outsourced. The practice offers an extra level of security and reliability to prevent mass data breaches.

Other enhancements include simplified contact management, and users can now copy files, not just move them from folder to folder. Plans for the cloud-based services start from $8.77 per month.

The Shredder feature, which permanently deletes files, can now be set to a specific time or time frame, and user management and resource management dashboard enhancements allows sharing of management capabilities.

Finally, the company has included a My Contacts dashboard to enhance contact management capabilities, as well as additional security enhancements. The security features of CertainSafe include a multi-layered login process that uses a personal picture and a personal phrase that are delivered from different servers. A challenge question follows the personal image to provide enhanced login security.

“A majority of businesses today could be just one data breach away from losing their business,” Russo said. “Potential fines that can be imposed, loss of reputation, client trust, customer confidence in the brand, legal fees, loss of productivity, company secrets and more can have devastating affects.”
