IBM is expanding its Lotus Software divisions Lotus Workplace offerings into content management via acquisition, announcing Tuesday that it has bought Web content management software developer Aptrix, a longtime IBM business partner.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. But the deal adds Web content management to the Lotus Workplace portfolio so that users can collaborate on assembling and deploying content to a portal or Web site.

The new Lotus offering built on the Aptrix technology will be called Lotus Workplace Content Development and is available immediately, though it will not officially be marketed under the Lotus Workplace brand until later this quarter.

Lotus officials said the technology will integrate easily into current Lotus Domino, WebSphere and DB2 Content Manager environments

Aptrix, known officially as Presence Online Pty. Ltd., is based in Sydney, Australia, with offices in London and Stoneham, Mass.
