Voice, data, security and cloud services specialist MegaPath announced the release of its Managed IPsec VPN and Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution.

The managed network and security service can be used with virtually any commodity Internet connection and is aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

With MegaPath’s IPsec VPN with Managed Firewall and UTM, clients can monitor and analyze what’s happening in their network through a cloud dashboard, while MegaPath does the heavy lifting of configuring, installing, monitoring, and supporting the network.

“User friendliness is very important for network management. IT staff find it increasingly difficult to lead the charge for innovation with maintenance-level staffing, so managing technology needs to become easier, not more difficult,” Matt Mayhew, cloud services product manager at MegaPath, told eWEEK. “This makes cloud-based managed network services very appealing.”

MegaPath’s fully managed IPsec VPN securely connects distributed work sites and remote workers with end-to-end encryption and next-generation firewalls, giving users secure access to enterprise data and applications among branch locations and from remote laptops, tablets, and other devices.

“As businesses continue to move toward cloud technologies and remote workforces, securing the network infrastructure and simplifying the management of it will become even more important,” Mayhew said. “MegaPath’s fully managed cloud-based solution is just one example of that.”

Unified Threat Management provides multi-layered security designed to safeguard company networks and information assets against viruses, malware and emerging cyber threats with components such as intrusion detection and prevention, content filtering, and antivirus and anti-phishing.

“Cyber threats are constantly evolving, and securing yourself against those threats requires constant vigilance,” Mayhew said. “A business wouldn’t leave its office doors unlocked at the end of the day, and they shouldn’t leave their network unguarded either.”

He warned companies that implement DIY security may uncover security gaps too late.

“MegaPath’s fully managed UTM solution is built on best-of-breed technologies including the highly respected and widely used SourceFire SNORT engine,” he explained. “Managed security lets companies offload the burdensome task of constantly protecting the network against malicious entities and threats.”

The company’s managed network and security services include installation, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting, performed remotely by MegaPath’s network operations center staff.

Customers receive automatic updates of firmware and security signatures delivered over the Internet, as well as dedicated help desk support available 24/7/365.

The Managed IPsec VPN and UTM offerings also complement MegaPath’s portfolio of business technology services including hosted voice, unified communications, managed WiFi and cloud IT.
