Threat management solutions specialist NetCitadel and cloud-based security intelligence provider Webroot announced a partnership to help businesses defend themselves from Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and other security issues.

Under the partnership, NetCitadel will embed Webroot IP Reputation Service into its Threat Management Platform (TMP), providing relevant contextual data such as IP reputation, threat type and geo-location data for security incidents.

In return, NetCitadel customers will gain access to Webroot Intelligence Network services and its updated data feed on hundreds of millions of IP addresses worldwide to receive comprehensive and accurate IP reputation and security intelligence data.

“Integrating best-of-breed IP technologies follows our strategy of offering the best solution choices for our customers,” Neil Stratz, vice president of sales and marketing at NetCitadel, said in a statement. “By combining the additional security intelligence from Webroot with NetCitadel’s context-aware platform, security analysts are effectively slamming the door on modern malware and targeted attacks.”

Webroot IP Reputation Services provide real-time context data for security incidents, including whether a particular IP is malicious and the type of threat, while NetCitadel correlates this information across alerts, adds additional threat context, scores the threat, and presents it to security analysts in a single-pane-of-glass format.

“We are pleased to work with NetCitadel to enhance their Threat Management Platform offering for enterprise customers,” Scott Merkle, vice president of enterprise and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sales at Webroot, said in a statement. “By leveraging Webroot’s dynamic big data analytics and automated machine-learning approach to security intelligence, NetCitadel customers will experience dramatic improvements in their security efficacy and marked reductions in the time required to identify new and existing IP threats.”

The announcement comes ahead of the annual RSA Europe Internet security conference in Amsterdam, where the two companies will provide more details on the partnership and demo their respective services, as well as draw attention to the rapidly evolving threat landscape targeting mobile platforms such as Google Android and Apple iOS.

In October, Webroot announced the release of its edition of SecureAnywhere Business–Mobile Protection to secure mobile devices in the workplace. With the platform, IT administrators have the ability to create policies that can be updated and duplicated within the console and create user groups to organize their users. Administrators can also drag-and-drop users into a group, and user devices will automatically pick up the policies associated with that group.

The majority of businesses (79 percent, to be exact) had a mobile security incident in the past year, and the costs are substantial, according to security specialist Check Point Software Technologies report released in June.

The study found mobile security incidents cost 42 percent of businesses six figures, with 16 percent putting the cost at more than $500,000. Large businesses were especially hard hit, as more than half (52 percent) of large businesses reported mobile security incidents have amounted to more than $500,000 in the past year.
