Data Storage Corp., a New York-based provider of electronic data storage for enterprise and health care systems, announced June 28 that it has acquired SafeData, which makes data protection software for IBM data center systems.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
SafeData will operate as a division of DSC, remaining in its Warwick, R.I., location and continuing to serve existing customers with its SafeData/HA, SafeData/DR and SafeData/TR products, DSC said.
With the acquisition, DSC will augment its current products and services to include data backup and recovery, digital archiving, virtual hosting and standby data recovery, e-discovery, e-mail archiving, and hosted exchange for the IBM iSeries market.
SafeData approaches backup and disaster recovery with its subscription-based backup RTO (Recovery Time Objectives) service products.
Peter Briggs will continue to serve as president of the new SafeData unit and also will become an executive vice president of DSC. Larry Putterman, chairman of SafeData, will serve on the DSC board of directors.
Since its inception in 2001, DSC has developed into a provider of disaster recovery and business continuity hardware, software and services. DSC’s lineup of strategic partners includes IBM, Microsoft, Cisco Systems and Dell.
“We plan to grow our organization organically and through strategic acquisitions,” DSC Chairman and CEO Chuck Piluso said in a statement. “With SafeData’s penetration in the IBM iSeries market and its extensive client base, it was a logical addition. As part of the acquisition, we extended our service offerings, and gained the expertise of an excellent team of talented data storage and recovery professionals.”
