EMC, filling an important hole in its cloud service catalog, revealed May 22 that is has acquired privately held cloud-based file management provider Syncplicity for an undisclosed sum.

EMC made the announcement at EMC World in Las Vegas without releasing details about the transaction.

Syncplicity, whose CEO is former Oracle and SolarWinds executive Karen White, is a next-generation cloud-based service for secure file synchronization, mobility and collaboration. The service gives individuals, teams and businesses seamless access to any file they need and on every computer, mobile device, file server and business application they work in€”both online and offline€”while making the process a simple routine.

Syncplicity has about 25,000 businesses and individuals worldwide already using its Virtual Private Cloud for file sync, access and sharing. The company simply regards the Internet as the de facto corporate network.

Syncplicity for the enterprise also enables users to interact and share content on their device of choice under security and governance IT guidelines inside regulated industries.

EMC said it would integrate Syncplicity into its Information Intelligence Group. The deal is expected to be complete this quarter, the company said.
