Flexibility eyed With external storage devices, users want as many options as possible. Micro Solutions Inc. this month will begin shipping an external CD-RW drive that the company said is designed to be flexible.

Includes SpeedyCD The backpack triple-play CD-RW drive includes USB (Universal Serial Bus) 2.0 and parallel and PC Card connection options in one box and features new SpeedyCD data and music disk creation software. According to the De Kalb, Ill., company, the drive is the only one on the market that works out of the box with all Pentium-based notebooks and desktop PCs. The drives parallel port enables the backpack to work with disaster recovery and disk imaging software and can be used with Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0 and DOS, none of which supports USB.

Hot-pluggable The device can be used with any USB port and is hot-pluggable on all ports with Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP. Pricing for the drive starts at $229.
