STORAGE

Hitachi Data Systems Corp. is shipping its first network-attached storage product, which works on the same network segment as a storage area network.

The offering, based on technology from Network Storage Solutions Inc., will be packaged in the Santa Clara, Calif., companys Freedom Data Networks series. It will let users see many drives as one, company officials said.

The system works under Windows NT, Windows 2000, AS/400 and Unix; is available in 1U, 2U and 6U rack mounts; and includes Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet connections. Its available now for prices starting at $22,500.
