Hewlett-Packard is coming at enterprise storage organization problems from a Microsoft SharePoint-read that nonstorage-vantage point.
HP on Feb. 8 introduced a new version of its Web-based records management package, TRIM (Total Records Information Management) 7, which enables an enterprise to manage all of its Microsoft SharePoint Server records within a single environment-regardless of the source of each document.
TRIM 7 features two new modules:
“-TRIM Records Management provides access to all the SharePoint Server content held in TRIM, filed directly from SharePoint Server; it also features U.S. Department of Defense 5015.2 v3 content-management certification.-TRIM Archiving helps reduce the risk of data loss when reclaiming storage and system resources from SharePoint Server. This module archives specified list objects in SharePoint Server-or even entire SharePoint Server sites-to TRIM. Users may take entire SharePoint Server sites offline while maintaining uninterrupted access to the data.“
TRIM 7 can be used for corporate regulatory compliance, especially involving the 2006 updates to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which require businesses to be able to quickly locate and produce digital information for a court of law in the event of litigation.
“This helps organizations respond faster to e-discovery rules for litigation, such as those from the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, as well as legal investigations and compliance audits,” Patrick Eitenbichler, director of worldwide marketing for HP’s Information Management unit, told eWEEK.
“Organizations today are being hit with Content 2.0 explosion and a flood of regulations around the globe. HP TRIM 7 makes it easy and transparent for organizations to respond proactively to these compliance requirements,” Eitenbichler said.
“Our customers in regulated industries tell us that one of the most immediate needs they have is [to do] with managing content created within collaboration tools such as SharePoint. This tight integration with HP TRIM 7 and Microsoft SharePoint is critical right now for global organization.”
