Disk and tape storage maker Quantum on April 4 made good a planned change in its C-level leadership, naming President and COO Jon Gacek as its new CEO.

Gacek succeeds Rick Belluzzo, who had led the company since 2002.

Belluzzo, who was president and COO of Microsoft from 1999 to 2002, moves to the newly created position of executive chairman of the company’s board of directors, where he will assist the company in the leadership transition and engaging with key customers and partners as needed, the company said.

Gacek, who also joins the board, has moved rather quickly up the ladder, having been named to the presidency of the company in January 2011. He had served as executive vice president, COO and CFO since May 2009.

Gacek joined Quantum as executive vice president and CFO in August 2006, at the time of Quantum’s acquisition of Advanced Digital Information Corp. Previous to that, Gacek served as CFO at ADIC for seven years.

“I will talk more about our plans and expectations for FY12 when we announce our March quarter financial results on May 17, but we do expect to grow both total revenue and branded revenue for the year as we capitalize on the opportunities ahead,” Gacek said in a prepared statement.
