Sanford Russell, director of marketing for Nvidia’s Grid Business Unit, sees the virtual desktop space as a a wide-open market for the company. According to Russell, as VDI rolled out it was hindered by having to rely on CPUs, which delivered the compute power these environments needed, but not the graphics abilities.

But now that VMware is embracing Nvidia’s Grid vGPU technology, high-performance graphics have finally been brought to the desktop virtualization space.

The wearables market continues to expand as more companies roll out offerings. Sony’s upcoming new SmartWatch 3 can now be preordered through Verizon Wireless, with the devices shipping by Oct. 30.

Also, the new LG G Watch R smartwatch will be available in Europe in the beginning of November and in the U.S. soon after. Both smartwatches had been announced earlier at June’s Google I/O 2014 developer conference, where they were a big part of Google’s Android Wear initiative.

A recent Kaspersky Lab and B2B International survey found that 94 percent of organizations encountered at least one cyber-security incident in the past 12 months. Also, twelve percent of respondents indicated that they experienced at least one targeted attack in the past year – up from the 9 percent reported in Kaspersky Lab’s 2012 and 2013 studies.

One particularly worrisome finding was that more than one-third of companies named the protection of confidential data, such as client data, financial data and other kinds of information, as a key problem for their IT management teams.

A recent study done by cloud-security firm Elastica found that many people do not consider the security implications of putting sensitive data in the cloud.

The study showed that workers broadly shared an average of 185 documents with colleagues, their company or the public, and 20 percent of the documents contained sensitive or compliance-related data, according to the report.

Rehan Jalil, president and CEO of Elastica, explained that companies need to know what documents their employees are sharing outside the company because simply blocking cloud applications does not work for long.
