A growing trend in new-generation IT is the increasing availability of new, intuitive development toolkits—along with corresponding professional services—for enterprise IT staff to use in fine-tuning apps and cloud services for specific lines of business.
For example, cloud services for health-care providers are vastly different and take in widely varying data sets than do cloud services for retail, financial services or scientific research. Thus, requirements for all these types of cloud systems are all over the map.
With this in mind, cloud storage and services provider CommVault on Sept. 25 launched a new consulting service that enables IT users to design their own data protection services for private-cloud infrastructures.
Private clouds, specialized applications and apps customized for mobile devices are fine, but quality control, security and overall usability issues often plague IT managers after implementation.
CommVault, true to its name, is primarily about data protection; with its new Private Cloud Services Design offering, users can orchestrate a service-centric approach for private cloud data management and achieve improved quality of service levels and tighter security at the same time, CommVault said.
The new service, which averages about six weeks to implement, is aimed at IT shops that lack the skills and experience to design a data management strategy for a private cloud project.
Private Cloud Services Design employs industry best practices and the expertise of CommVault’s experienced consultants, architects and engineers to help IT organizations create top-level data management and protection services. These data management services are developed using industry-accepted ITIL (formerly known as Information Technology Infrastructure Library) methodologies.
They also focus on key services catalog elements, such as service definitions, cost management, internal billing, operations and process management, organizational alignment, and data security.
